💙 A Sister’s Heart: Loving Karson Through It All 💙
When I first found out that my little brother Karson was diagnosed with autism, something inside me changed not in a sad way, but in the most powerful way.
I already loved him so much, but knowing more about what made him different made me love him even more.
🧩 Understanding Karson
I remember sitting with my mom and dad as they gently explained what autism meant. They didn’t make it scary; they made it comforting. We even read a children's book together to help me understand it better. That book taught me that Karson’s brain just works in a different way and that difference is something to celebrate.
👧🏾 Big Sister, Always
When we started school, I knew my job. I was Karson’s protector.
I made sure he felt safe in his classroom. His teachers welcomed me anytime he needed a familiar face to help him calm down. I didn’t do it because I had to, I did it because my heart needed to.
My friends loved Karson too. They looked out for him the way I did. He’s just that kind of kid smart, funny, and full of light. It’s impossible not to love him.
A Letter to My Brother
Dear Karson,
I love you so much. I will always be here to protect you,
guide you, and remind you just how amazing you are.
Keep being the smart, funny little brother that you are, the one who makes everyone smile without even trying.
Mommy and Daddy have taught me how to help take care of you,
and I want you to know this: You will never be too old for me to care for.
You’re my little brother forever.
I love how your eyes light up when we play together. I love
hearing your laughter. Those are the moments that mean the most to me.
Thank you for being you: perfectly, wonderfully, and
uniquely you.
Love you forever and always,
Your Big Sister đź’™
